About PRSJ

About the Public Relations Society of Japan

The Public Relations Society of Japan (PRSJ) is the nation’s leading professional organization serving the communications community, with more than 690 professional and organizational members.

Since its establishment in 1980 following the merger of the Japan PR Society and the PR Work Japan Society, the Public Relations Society of Japan (PRSJ) has been working on efforts to promote awareness and understanding of public relations in Japan.

Leveraging our wide membership base spanning both in-house and agency PR professionals, we carve out new opportunities, share insights and practical knowledge, and spearhead initiatives to train the next generation of PR professionals.

Public Relations Accreditation

In 2007, we launched the PR Planner Certification and examinations in an effort to promote professional development among PR practitioners. Testing everything from foundational knowledge to applied skills, the examinations are suitable for those engaged in PR activities at public and private entities, as well as students and others with an interest in the field. There are three levels of accreditation: Public Relations Planner, Associate Public Relations Planner, and Assistant Public Relations Planner. As of [month] [year], a total of [number] people have been certified as PR planners.

Networking

We provide networking opportunities for members and non-members alike through PRSJ-run events like lectures and forums attended by opinion leaders and key figures in the news media.

Professional Development

Practical PR courses

We run a structured educational program comprising three courses for students of varying levels with diverse learning goals.

1. Foundation course
This course for newcomers to PR covers foundational knowledge and applied skills required in the industry.

2. Intermediate course
Aimed at PR practitioners with a certain amount of industry experience, this course teaches advanced PR knowledge and applied skills through specialized lectures, group work, and other activities.

3. PR Planner exam prep course
This course consists of lectures and seminars that teach students the knowledge and skills required to pass the PR Planner Certification Examination.

Regular seminars

Once a month, we invite key opinion leaders and media figures involved in industry-leading initiatives to discuss a topical theme. (Click here for more information and details on how to apply)
